How PDFTools.studio compares with other PDF tools
Comparisons checked on September 30, 2026
Most online PDF services upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. PDFTools.studio processes the file in your browser instead. That one difference explains most of what follows: no upload and no task limits on one side, and on the other, weaker Office conversion and a ceiling set by your device's memory. Each page below compares this site with one service, using that service's own published information, and says what it does better.

At a glance
| Service | Where files are processed | Limits on free use |
|---|---|---|
| PDFTools.studio | In your browser, on your own device. Nothing is uploaded. | Up to 150 MB per file on most tools and no daily or hourly task limit. Large files depend on your device's memory. |
| iLovePDF | On iLovePDF's platform. Its security page says files are encrypted in transit and at rest and deleted within two hours of processing. | Limited document processing and a smaller set of tools. File size and batch caps vary by tool. |
| Smallpdf | On Smallpdf's servers. Its Merge PDF page says files are encrypted using TLS and automatically deleted from its servers after one hour. | The free plan has limits. Smallpdf's own plan comparison lists limited document downloads, limited mobile app access and limited access on some tools. |
| PDF24 | Most online tools run on PDF24's servers. Its Merge PDF page says transfers are SSL secured, servers are located in Germany, and files are deleted after one hour. Its Compare PDF page says files are compared in the browser and not uploaded. | None stated. PDF24 says you can use all features as often as you like. |
| Sejda | Online, on Sejda's servers. Its homepage says files are permanently deleted after processing. The desktop app works offline and files never leave your computer. | The free tier has page and hourly limits, limited file uploads and tool-specific limits. Paid plans remove them and allow larger files. |
| Adobe Acrobat | On Adobe's servers. Its tool pages say your file is handled securely by Adobe servers and deleted unless you sign in to save it. | Generous sizes: Merge PDF accepts up to 100 files and 1,500 pages, and Compress PDF accepts files up to 2 GB. Unlimited compression, batch processing and advanced controls require a paid plan. |

How to choose
Choose a browser-based tool when the document is private, when you keep meeting a task limit, or when you cannot install software. Page operations such as merging, splitting, rotating and reordering copy pages unchanged, so nothing is lost by doing them locally.
Choose a server-based or desktop tool when the result has to look identical in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, when you need to change text and keep the original font, when the file is larger than your device can hold in memory, or when a signature needs legal standing.
Using one of each is a sensible arrangement. The guide are online PDF tools safe? goes through what happens to a file on a server, what can go wrong, and how to check any site yourself.
