A Sejda alternative without hourly or page limits
Comparison checked on September 30, 2026
Sejda has a capable online PDF editor that can change existing text, and a desktop app that keeps files on your computer. Its free service comes with page limits, hourly limits and limits that differ by tool. PDFTools.studio has none of those, because each tool runs in your browser and no server has to be shared between users.
Why people look for an alternative to Sejda
The limits are the common reason: a document over the page limit cannot be processed free, and after a few tasks you wait for the next hour. Privacy is the other. Sejda's online service processes files on its servers. The version that keeps files local is the desktop app, which has the same kind of limits on the free tier and none on the annual plan.
If what you need is Sejda's editor, this site is not a full replacement, and the comparison below says why.
Side by side
| PDFTools.studio | Sejda | |
|---|---|---|
| Where your file is processed | In your browser, on your own device. Nothing is uploaded. | Online, on Sejda's servers. Its homepage says files are permanently deleted after processing. The desktop app works offline and files never leave your computer. |
| Price | Free. No paid plan exists. | A free tier, plus paid passes and subscriptions. |
| Account | None. There is nothing to sign up for. | No signup required for the free tier. |
| Limits on free use | Up to 150 MB per file on most tools and no daily or hourly task limit. Large files depend on your device's memory. | The free tier has page and hourly limits, limited file uploads and tool-specific limits. Paid plans remove them and allow larger files. |
| OCR | Free. Adds a searchable text layer in seven languages. Non-Latin scripts are skipped. | Paid plans include OCR for documents up to 100 pages. |
| Editing text already in the PDF | Click a word to retype it. The original is covered and your text is drawn in Helvetica, Times or Courier, so the font may differ. | The online editor can edit existing PDF text. Editing text in scanned documents is not supported. |
| Apps and offline use | Website only. Works in a current browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iOS. | Sejda Desktop, which works offline. The free tier has limits; the annual plan removes them. |
The Sejda column is taken from its own pages (homepage and pricing) on the date above. Prices are left out because they vary by country. Check those pages for current details. Sejda is a trademark of its owner; PDFTools.studio is not affiliated with it.
What the difference means in practice
Limits. An hourly limit suits someone with one document to fix. It gets in the way when a job has several steps, such as deleting pages, reordering, numbering and compressing. Here each step is a separate tool with no counter, and the only ceiling is your device's memory.
Editing. Sejda is stronger. Its editor changes the text that is in the document. The editor here lets you click a word and retype it, but it covers the original and draws your text in Helvetica, Times or Courier, so a document set in another font will show the difference. It also adds text, images, highlights, whiteout, pen strokes and shapes, and can delete, insert or rotate pages.
Offline work. Sejda Desktop and this site both keep files on your device. The desktop app is an installed program, with limits unless you are on the annual plan; this site is a web page that loads its libraries and then works locally, on any operating system.
Who should switch, and who should not
PDFTools.studio fits if you meet the page or hourly limit, if you want local processing without installing a desktop app, or if your work is page operations, compression, protection and OCR.
Stay with Sejda if you edit the text of PDFs often, or if you process documents too large for a browser to hold in memory.
A sensible split is Sejda for direct text edits and this site for everything that does not need them.

Frequently asked questions
Is Sejda safe to use?
It depends on what the file contains. Sejda's homepage says files are permanently deleted after processing, so the online service does receive the file and you rely on that promise. Its desktop app works offline and keeps files on your computer. PDFTools.studio never receives the file: each tool runs in your browser.
Does PDFTools.studio have page or hourly limits like Sejda?
No. There is no page limit, no hourly limit and no task counter. Most tools accept files up to 150 MB, and large documents depend on how much memory your device has.
Can PDFTools.studio edit existing text in a PDF?
Partly. In the PDF Editor you click a word and retype it. The original is covered with a white box and your text is drawn in Helvetica, Times or Courier, so the font may differ from the rest of the document. Sejda's editor changes the text itself.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Every tool processes the file in your browser. Sejda's online service processes files on its servers and deletes them after processing; its desktop app keeps files on your computer.
Is OCR free here?
Yes. OCR PDF adds a searchable text layer in seven languages at no cost. It downloads its language data on first use, and it skips words in non-Latin scripts.
