Key features of PDF to JPG
Each page becomes its own image inside a single ZIP built with JSZip, so a 20-page PDF gives you 20 files in one download.
Pages are rasterised at twice their point size, about 144 DPI, so an A4 page comes out around 1190 by 1684 pixels: sharp enough for screens and ordinary printing.
The PDF is read and rendered by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account or watermark.
About PDF to JPG
PDF to JPG draws each page onto a canvas with pdf.js at scale 2 and encodes the canvas as a JPEG at 92% quality. JSZip collects the images into one archive named after your file with the suffix _images.zip. Every page is converted; there is no page range, quality or size setting.
Use it to post a page of a brochure on a site that only takes images, to drop a PDF page into a slide or a chat, or to make thumbnails of a document. It converts whole pages, not the photos inside them: an embedded picture comes out as part of its page at the render resolution, not as the original file. JPEG cannot store transparency, so use PDF to PNG if you need a lossless image.
When to use PDF to JPG
A one-page flyer or poster exists only as a PDF, and the event listing, marketplace or social site you want to post it on accepts image uploads only. Convert the file, open the ZIP and upload page_1.jpg. The JPEG compression keeps the upload small.
Someone sends you a signed order form or a delivery note as a PDF and you want to paste it into a chat, a ticket or a text message where images show inline and attachments need a tap to open. Convert it and drop the page image into the message. If you want to write or draw on the page and keep it as a PDF, Draw on PDF does that without changing the format.
You are printing a photo-heavy catalogue from a phone or a print kiosk that takes image files rather than PDFs. One JPG per page is what that setup expects. For pages of text, tables or fine line drawings, PDF to PNG gives the same resolution without compression marks around the letters.
This is not a way to shrink a PDF. Converting to JPG replaces selectable text with pixels, so if the aim is a lighter file that still behaves like a document, use Compress PDF, which re-encodes the images inside the file and leaves the text alone.
Tips and troubleshooting
- If a message under the drop zone says the file is too large, it is over 150 MB and nothing starts. Cut the document down with Extract Pages or Delete Pages and convert the smaller file.
- Conversion failed: No password given means the PDF needs a password to open, and this tool cannot take one. Remove the password first and convert the copy. A file that opens in a reader without a prompt converts normally, even if printing or copying is restricted.
- Conversion failed: Invalid PDF structure means the file is not a PDF. The picker filters for .pdf, but drag and drop accepts any file.
- The images are named page_1.jpg through page_N.jpg with no zero padding, so a file manager sorting by name lists page_10 before page_2. Sort by the number, or rename the files first.
- Every page is painted white before it is drawn, so a page with no background of its own comes out white rather than black, which is what an unpainted canvas would give in a JPEG.
- There is no Preview Document button on the result card, because the preview only opens PDFs, images and text and the result is a ZIP. Unzip the download to look at the pages.
- All the page images sit in memory until the ZIP is built. A long PDF, or one with poster-sized pages that come out several thousand pixels on a side, can make the tab slow or stop with an error; convert those in smaller pieces.
- Not sure whether JPG or PNG suits your pages? PDF to JPG or PNG: which one to choose compares the two with measured file sizes for text, photos and scans.
How PDF to JPG works in your browser
Choosing a file hands it to the script as a File object, which reads it into memory with arrayBuffer and passes the bytes to pdf.js. The parsing happens in a Web Worker that the page loads from cdnjs.cloudflare.com. For each page the script asks pdf.js for a viewport at scale 2, creates a canvas of that width and height, and calls page.render to draw the page onto it. The finished canvas is encoded with toDataURL as image/jpeg at quality 0.92, the base64 prefix is stripped, and the bytes are added to a JSZip archive as page_N.jpg.
When the last page is in, JSZip generates the archive as a Blob, still in memory, and the result card shows its name (your file name with _images.zip in place of .pdf) and size. Download File creates a temporary object URL for that Blob and clicks a hidden link, so the browser saves it from memory. Apart from Google Analytics, which loads only while it is switched on and never receives the file, the only requests the page makes are for its own HTML, CSS and JavaScript and for the pdf.js and JSZip libraries; the PDF bytes, the canvases and the ZIP stay in the tab and are discarded when you close or reload it.
Frequently asked questions
Does it extract the photos embedded in the PDF?
No. It renders whole pages as images. An embedded picture comes out as part of its page at the render resolution, not as the original file.
Can I convert only some pages?
Not here; every page is converted. Run the file through Extract Pages first to keep just the pages you want, then convert that.
What resolution and quality are the images?
Each page is rendered at twice its nominal size, about 144 DPI, and saved as a JPEG at 92% quality. For an A4 page that is roughly 1190 by 1684 pixels.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The file is chosen from the phone's file picker and every page is rendered on the device, so nothing changes except speed and memory. A long document takes longer on a phone, and on an older device it can run out of memory; convert a few pages at a time if that happens.
Can I convert several PDFs at once?
No. The upload box takes one PDF at a time and starts converting as soon as it is chosen. When the ZIP is ready, click Process Another File, which reloads the page, and choose the next one.
Why is the text in the images not selectable?
Because a JPG is a picture with no text layer; the letters are pixels. If you need the words, use PDF to Text on the original PDF, and keep the images for places that only accept pictures.
