How to use PDF to PPT

1. Drop your PDF on the upload box or click Choose Files. Use Remove File if you picked the wrong one.
2. Click Convert to PowerPoint (.pptx). Each page is rendered with pdf.js at 1.6 times its nominal size, saved as a JPEG, and placed on a widescreen slide, scaled to fit and centred.
3. Click Download File to save the .pptx and open it in PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides or LibreOffice Impress.

Key features of PDF to PPT

🖼️ One slide per page

Every page becomes one 16:9 slide holding a JPEG of the page at 85% quality, so charts, fonts and diagrams look as they do in the PDF, as a picture.

📐 No stretching

Pages are scaled to fit inside the slide and centred, so a portrait page gets space at the sides instead of being squashed to widescreen.

⚠️ Slides are not editable text

Each slide is one image. You can move or resize it in PowerPoint, but the words in it are not text boxes. Use PDF to Word if you need the text.

About PDF to PPT

PDF to PPT renders each page to a canvas with pdf.js, encodes it as a JPEG, and builds a PresentationML package with JSZip: a presentation part with a 13.33 by 7.5 inch slide size, a blank slide master, layout and theme, and one slide per page with the image placed in a picture frame. The output takes the name of your PDF with a .pptx extension.

Use it when you need to show a PDF inside an existing deck, present a report page by page, or hand a document to someone who works in PowerPoint. Because every slide is a picture, nothing on it can be edited as text or shapes, and no speaker notes are created. For an editable deck, rebuild the slides in PowerPoint or extract the text with PDF to Word.

When to use PDF to PPT

A designer delivers your pitch deck or brand guidelines as a PDF, and it has to sit inside the company template deck for a meeting. Convert it and copy the slides across; each one is a rendered picture, so the fonts and layout look as the designer set them, without those fonts being installed.

You want to walk a class or a team through a PDF handout page by page on a projector, using the presenter view, slide sorter and pen that PowerPoint provides. One page per slide is what that needs, and a scanned handout works as well as a born-digital one here, since the slide is a picture either way.

A PDF that mixes portrait pages, landscape pages and an A3 fold-out converts without anything being cropped: each page is fitted inside the 16:9 slide on its own, so the slides all have the same size and the odd pages get more margin.

When you need the words to be editable, this is the wrong direction: use PDF to Word for the text or PDF to Excel for a table, then paste into your own slides. If you only want the page pictures, PDF to JPG renders them at a higher 2x scale and delivers a ZIP rather than a deck.

Tips and troubleshooting

  • Failed to convert to PowerPoint: No password given means the PDF needs a password to open; remove it first. Restrictions on printing or copying do not block rendering.
  • Failed to convert to PowerPoint: Invalid PDF structure means the file is not a PDF; drag and drop does not apply the .pdf filter.
  • The slide size is fixed at 13.33 by 7.5 inches (16:9). You can change it in PowerPoint afterwards, but the pictures were fitted to 16:9 and will need repositioning.
  • Each page is rendered at 1.6 times its nominal size, about 115 DPI, and saved as a JPEG at 85% quality. Small print on a dense page can look soft when projected large; for sharper images, render the pages with PDF to PNG and insert them yourself.
  • The pictures have their aspect ratio locked, so dragging a corner in PowerPoint keeps the proportions. The slides use one blank layout: no title placeholders, no speaker notes and no transitions are created.
  • All pages are converted; there is no page picker. Remove unwanted pages with Delete Pages before converting.
  • The result card has no Preview Document button, since a .pptx cannot be previewed on the page. The file is named after the PDF with a .pptx extension, and because every page becomes a JPEG it can be larger than the PDF it came from. Files over 150 MB are refused before conversion starts.

How PDF to PPT works in your browser

The file is read into memory and parsed by pdf.js in a worker loaded from cdnjs.cloudflare.com. For each page the script requests a viewport at scale 1.6, draws the page onto a canvas with the print intent, and encodes the canvas as a JPEG at quality 0.85. It then works out the picture's position in English Metric Units: the page is scaled to fit within 12192000 by 6858000 EMU and centred, and those numbers go into the transform of a picture shape in ppt/slides/slideN.xml. The JPEG is stored as ppt/media/imageN.jpg and linked through the slide's relationships part.

After the pages, JSZip adds the rest of the PresentationML package: [Content_Types].xml listing every slide, the package relationships, ppt/presentation.xml with the slide list and size, a theme, a blank slide master and a blank layout. generateAsync produces the .pptx as a Blob, and Download File saves it through a temporary object URL. The PDF bytes, the canvases and the package are held in the tab's memory only and go away when the page is closed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the text on the slides in PowerPoint?

No. Each slide contains an image of the page. The picture can be moved or resized, but the words in it are not text objects. Use PDF to Word to get editable text.

Will portrait pages be stretched to widescreen?

No. Each page is scaled to fit inside the 16:9 slide and centred, leaving space at the sides rather than distorting it.

What resolution are the slide images?

Each page is rendered at 1.6 times its nominal size, so an A4 page becomes a JPEG of about 952 by 1347 pixels at 85% quality. There is no setting to change it.

Does it work with a scanned PDF?

Yes. A scan is already a picture, and each page is rendered and placed on a slide the same way as any other page. No OCR is applied, so the words on the slides are not searchable in PowerPoint.

Can I choose which pages become slides?

No. Every page is converted in order. Use Delete Pages or Extract Pages first if you want a shorter deck, then convert the result.

Why is the .pptx larger than my PDF?

Each page becomes a full-page JPEG. A page of vector text takes little space in a PDF but becomes a full-size image here, so a long text document grows when converted, while a PDF made of scans stays closer to its original size.
