How to use PPT to PDF

1. Drop a .pptx file on the upload zone or click Choose Files. Legacy .ppt files are refused with a message; save them as .pptx first.
2. There are no options to set. Click Convert PPT to PDF, or Remove File to pick a different presentation.
3. Click Download File to save the PDF, named after your presentation, or Preview Document to read it first.

Key features of PPT to PDF

📊 One page per slide

Each slide becomes a landscape A4 page labelled Slide N of M. The first text run is set in bold as the title, the rest in 13 pt Helvetica.

⚠️ Layout is not kept

Slide backgrounds, images, charts, fonts and positions are not reproduced, and speaker notes are left out. The result is a text outline of the deck.

🔒 Nothing is uploaded

The file is unpacked and read by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

About PPT to PDF

PPT to PDF opens the .pptx package with JSZip, reads the slide order from ppt/presentation.xml, and collects the text runs from each one. pdf-lib then draws them on landscape pages with a light header band and a slide counter. Text inside tables and shapes is included; notes pages are not.

It gives you a readable, printable record of what a deck says, which is useful for reviewing a presentation on a phone, sharing the talking points, or archiving the text. Each text run becomes its own line, so a sentence with a bold word in the middle may break into several lines, and a slide with more text than fits on one page is cut off at the bottom. For a PDF that looks like the slides, export from PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides.

When to use PPT to PDF

You are preparing a handout or an agenda from a deck and want the wording of each slide on its own page, numbered to match. Because every page carries a Slide N of M label, a reader can follow the printed text while the slides are shown.

Two versions of a presentation went back and forth and you need to know which bullet points changed. Convert both here and run the PDFs through PDF Compare; since neither PDF contains images or layout, the comparison shows only wording differences.

You want to search a long deck for a phrase, a product name or a figure. The text in the output is real Helvetica text, so the find box of any PDF viewer works on it, and PDF to Text can pull the whole outline out as a .txt file.

A deck that is mostly photos, diagrams or charts gains nothing here, because those elements are never read, and a slide with no text comes out as a page carrying only its number. Use the presentation app's own PDF export for such decks, and Compress PDF if that export is too large to send. For the reverse direction, PDF to PPT puts each PDF page onto a slide as an image.

Tips and troubleshooting

  • The message This file is not a valid .pptx presentation means the file is not a zipped PowerPoint package: an .odp or .key file renamed to .pptx, or an incomplete download. Save it again as .pptx from the app that made it.
  • Pages follow the slide order stored in the presentation, so a rearranged deck comes out in its current order. Use Reorder Pages on the result for a different order.
  • Hidden slides are included, because the tool reads every slide file and does not check the hidden flag. Delete them in PowerPoint first or remove their pages with Delete Pages.
  • The first text run on a slide is set as its bold 18 pt title, whatever it is. If a footer or a text box was added before the title placeholder, that text takes the bold line instead.
  • Text that reaches the bottom of a page is dropped silently: after the 70 point header band, around twenty lines of 13 pt text fit, each run wrapped at 85 characters, and the success message does not say when a slide was cut. Split a crowded slide in two before converting.
  • Charts, embedded spreadsheets and SmartArt keep their text in other parts of the package, not in the slide XML, so their labels and values are missing from the PDF.
  • Any character outside the Helvetica character set, such as Chinese or Arabic text or an emoji, stops the conversion with an error that mentions WinAnsi. Remove or replace it and try again.
  • The download is named after the presentation with a .pdf extension, and every page is landscape A4; there is no portrait or page size option.

How PPT to PDF works in your browser

After the file is read into memory, its first four bytes are compared with the OLE signature that identifies a binary .ppt, and such files are refused before anything else happens. JSZip then opens the .pptx package in memory and reads the slide list in ppt/presentation.xml, which gives each slide's XML file in show order; a package without that list falls back to the number N in ppt/slides/slideN.xml. Each slide's XML is parsed with the browser's DOMParser; every a:t element, which is one text run, is collected in document order, trimmed, and kept if it is not empty.

pdf-lib builds the output: for each slide a landscape A4 page, a 70 point band across the top in pale blue-grey, the Slide N of M label at the top right in 12 pt, then the runs, the first in 18 pt Helvetica Bold and the rest in 13 pt Helvetica, each cut into 85-character pieces. Both fonts are standard PDF fonts, so nothing is embedded and the file stays small. The bytes from save() become a Blob for the Download File and Preview Document buttons. The two libraries are fetched from cdnjs.cloudflare.com when the page loads; the presentation itself is never transmitted.

Frequently asked questions

Will the slides look like they do in PowerPoint?

No. Only the text is carried over, one page per slide. Backgrounds, images, charts and layouts are not reproduced. Use PowerPoint's own export for a faithful PDF.

Are speaker notes included?

No. Only the text on the slides themselves is converted.

Are .ppt files supported?

No. The older binary .ppt format cannot be read here, and the tool stops with a message that says so. Save the presentation as .pptx in PowerPoint or LibreOffice and convert that.

Are hidden slides included?

Yes. A hidden slide is still a slide file inside the package and the tool does not check the hidden flag, so its text appears in the PDF. Delete such slides in PowerPoint first, or remove their pages afterwards with Delete Pages.

Are the pages in the same order as my slides?

Yes. The order is read from the slide list inside the presentation file, the same list PowerPoint uses, so slides you moved come out where you moved them.

Can I search or copy the text in the PDF?

Yes. The output contains real text in Helvetica, so you can select it, copy it and use your viewer's find box. It is not a picture of the slides.
